Several food stalls and cultural fairs stand ready to provide distractions from the racing for the thousands who congregate here every year.

Don’t go for this one if you don’t like to get your hands dirty. For the aptly-named Mud Rush is exactly what is advertised – an all-terrain marathon run that takes you through the most unforgiving mud experience Silvassa can conjure.
Stretching across a five kilometer circuit, the Mud Rush takes the contestant through 30-foot stacks of hay, water barriers, 45 degree sloped hills, 100 feet stretches worth of tires, tunnels, fire obstacles, ice walls and lots of mud.

Gogamedi Fair
In a state where cattle and handicrafts are prized beyond all possessions, it is a no-brainer to think that some of the biggest events and festivals would be celebrated around them. Organized in the northern region of Rajasthan, the Gogamedi Fair is also a tribute to snakes – and you’ll find many a snake tricks being held forth in front of awed spectators. Singing and dancing are ritualistic accompaniments in the fair, and the many cultural experiences offered here ensure that everyone ends up having a gala time.

Independence Day

Not exactly an event, nor a festival – the Independence Day still makes this list due to the sheer munificence of the proceedings. Watching the head of state climb the podium of the Red Fort, unfurl the flag of India and give a speech inspiring the billion-strong nation to greater pursuits is always a treat to behold. The historic value of Red Fort adds to the value of the speech by the prime minister, and the fireworks show at night is only an added bonus.
When: August 15 2016
Where: Red Fort, New Delhi
With the end of summers and the onset of monsoons, why not step out, make a travel plan and welcome August in a fitting manner with a celebration or four?

Tips and Tricks for the Best Shopping

A shopaholic’s haven, the festival offers discounted shopping up to an unbelievable 75%! No wonder Dubai has been attracting a massive number of tourists from all over the globe, ever since its inception two decades ago. Gadgets, jewellery, arts and craft items, watches; name it and Dubai has it all! The alluring discounts and sales on luxurious brands make it even more irresistible. Here’s a short guide on how to win the shopping battle:

  • Start Shopping Early: Imagine, you are eyeing the perfect dress from a distance and somebody else takes it away! Happened before? So, the best way to win over your shopping rivals is to arrive at the store when they are still yawning in their beds. A morning shopping trip is the best. The store is tidy, staff is more attentive, and there are hardly any queues in the changing rooms.
  • Do your research: The trick is to know what you want and where to get it. With innumerable stores ready to blow your mind and leave you spoilt for choice, it is suggested to know beforehand which stores on the hubs and malls are brimming with your areas of interest.
  • Exploit the Sale: When shopping during the sales it is good to keep in mind any major upcoming events- a wedding or an adventure trip perhaps? The Dubai Shopping Festival 2016 is the perfect time to pick up that Prada handbag or those Jimmy Choo leather boots, the Gucci sunglasses or the Versace gowns that you have been leering at for quite some time now.

Worst Enemy of Frequent Travellers - JET LAG

“Jet Lag is for Amateurs” - Dick Clark

What does Jet Lag really mean?
Every human being has an inbuilt body clock, which is a small group of cells. These cells turn on and off automatically and tell other part of the body what time it is and what to do. Jet Lag essentially occurs when there is a “brake” inside the brain which stops the body clock from responding. It is medically called as desynchronosis, which is in general a sleep disorder. Mostly, Jet Lag is an issue for the airline pilots, frequent travellers and the airport crew members.

Effects of Jet Lag on us….
The frequently asked question about Jet Lag is how it affects us? The most common symptoms of Jet Lag are fatigue, confusion, insomnia and lack of awareness. Apart from this, the effects on body are anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, confusion, dehydration, headache, irritability, nausea, difficulty concentrating, sweating, coordination problems, dizziness, and it even leads to memory loss.

Causes of Jet Lag?
The major cause of Jet Lag is basically the inability of a traveller’s body to immediately adjust to the new time zone.

Ways to Beat Jet Lag (Before)

Nobody wants to put themselves in the symptoms of Jet Lag as it is a very uncomfortable state and it leads to negative health effects. Before taking a long flight, do check about the effects of Jet Lag.

The best way to avoid Jet Lag symptoms is to adjust faster to the new time zone. Some of the ways to do so are:

●       Before you leave, properly adjust your schedule according to the destination
Most importantly, know the direction in which you are travelling. It is more difficult to adjust while travelling towards east than west. When travelling from east to west, go to bed late and wake up late too. This is easier to adjust than to advancing our body clock, when travelling from west to east.

●       Try to control the light exposure
Controlling the light exposure is the deepest process to avoid Jet Lag and also the most effective too. In this case you need to ease yourself into the new time zone by deliberately manipulating your exposure to light. To reset your body clock; it is important to scout out and avoid light at the right times during the day.

●       Adviced to pop Melatonin (a drug)

Do speak to your doctor first to avoid any health issue. Melatonin is basically a chemical released by a human brain, which makes one sleepy. It is easily available on various drugstores. Be cautious, it is not right for everyone. Though, one study has proved that 5 mg dose of melatonin in the early evening helps the travellers get adjusted to the new time zone easily.
